As Vietnam’s lychee orchards bloom, local farmers seize the golden opportunity to enhance cultivation techniques during this crucial flowering and fruiting period. This will enhance productivity and ensure the quality of lychees meets the standards of various markets.

I - Vietnam's Lychee Export Achievements:

The lychee season in 2023 marked a triumphant year for Vietnam's lychee export. Exports surpassed 111,200 tons, accounting for more than 55% of the total yield, and revenue from lychee and related services exceeded VND 6.876 trillion, reaching a record high.

Vietnam, recognized as a prominent lychee exporter, has been making waves in global markets. Bac Giang, acknowledged as the largest lychee-growing province, sees farmers ensuring their produce meets strict criteria set by countries such as China, the United States, Japan, Australia, and Thailand. These criteria include safe production practices, pest control, farming records, and product traceability.

II - Area Codes and Vietnamese Lychee Export

The entire province of Bac Giang has 223 area codes for lychee cultivation, covering an area of over 17.2 thousand hectares. Among these, 130 area codes are designated for lychee exports to China, 38 for exports to Japan, and the remaining codes for markets such as the United States, Australia, the European Union, and Thailand.

Lychee Cultivation Practices:

As early lychee orchards in Bac Giang bloom and bear fruit, local farmers are focusing on implementing precise technical care procedures during the critical flowering and fruiting period. These efforts are not only vital for securing a successful harvest but also for meeting the high standards set by international markets.  For example, a one-hectare lychee orchard destined for the Japanese market adheres to recommended technical procedures. Cultivated for nearly two decades, the orchard requires proper care techniques, hygiene, and meticulous pruning for healthy, disease-resistant trees. The results are lychees with a sweeter flavor that satisfies the importers, sand a credible area code for the orchard.

Government Guidance and Oversight:

To ensure a successful lychee season, the provincial People's Committee guides the agriculture sector and localities, emphasizing strict management and supervision of lychee cultivation areas and packaging facilities for exports, each equipped with designated codes. In alignment with the 2024 lychee production plan, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development consistently reviews, inspects, evaluates, and monitors all existing area codes. The organization establishes documentation to propose to the Plant Protection Sub-Department (under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the authorized body for issuing new codes for areas meeting standards and revoking codes that fail to meet requirements.

III - The importance of managing area code for lychee export

In navigating the global lychee market, the strategic management of area codes poses a pivotal factor for Vietnam's success in lychee exports

3.1 Traceability and Transparency

Well-maintained area codes facilitate seamless traceability, ensuring that each batch of lychees can be traced back to its origin. This transparency not only builds trust with international buyers but also enhances the credibility of Vietnam as a lychee export country.

3.2.Compliance with International Standards:

By strategically allocating area codes, exporters can ensure that the lychee orchards comply with international standards set by key export markets. This adherence is instrumental in meeting the stringent criteria of the importing markets.

3.3. Improved Quality Control:

Effective area code management allows for enhanced quality control measures throughout the cultivation and production process. This, in turn, directly contributes to the overall premium quality of lychee produce.

As Vietnam continues to shine as a leading lychee exporter, the meticulous management of cultivation area codes and adherence to technical care processes are essential. At Fosacha, we deeply comprehend the significance of these practices in upholding the integrity and excellence of lychee exports. Our top priority is to find and collaborate with credible suppliers to deliver lychees that meet and exceed international standards.
