STAR APPLE

Star apple is a native fruit from the Central America but has been cultivated globally. The fruit was grown mostly in tropical regions, including Southeast Asia. The Star apple has a smooth leathery skin and depending on variety, is either purple to pink, yellow or green in color. Inside, a radiating star pattern is visible in the pulp, along with pointed, flat black seeds. Aside from its characteristic milky aroma. Star apple is also favored by the consumer for its juicy flesh and sweet flavor. In Vietnam, there are 3 notable varieties:

1. Lo Ren: The fruit has a round shape. When Lo Ren is riped, it turns pinkish or light purple. It has the sweetest flavor among the star apples varieties

2. Pink Butter: When pink butteris is riped, the fruit’s thick skin will turn milky or pink. Its flavor is described as sweet and buttery

3. Purple: The Purple fruit is the least sweet among other varieties, as well as the thinnest in skin. Its purple skin will turn into a darker charcoal purple when is riped

How to eat

Star Apples must be eaten fresh. Only the juicy, milky flesh inside is edible. And the Star Apple skin contains a sticky latex substance in it. By cutting the fruit in half an inch before pulling it apart, and revealing the star pattern inside. As well as the seeds. The number of seeds contained in each fruit will usually be from, 5 to 10 fairly good-sized seeds. To eat the milky flesh, we recommend the use of a spoon to scoop.
