CAULIFLOWER

Cauliflower is an annual or biannual plant that originated from Northeast Mediterranean. A relative of Broccoli through the plant species, the plant has thickened stem and heads that resemble those in broccoli, which differs in having flower buds as the edible portion. The flower head sometimes was called “curd” because of the similar appearance to cheese curd.

While the color of leaves can vary from white to orange, green, or purple, white is the most common color of cauliflower, having a contrasting white head surrounded by green leaves that branched off the top of the stem. The name “cauliflower” derives from the Italian cavolfiore, meaning "cabbage flower"

Typically, only the head of cauliflower is to be eaten, but the stem is also edible if cooked properly. Cauliflower has a slightly nutty and sweet flavor. The crunchy texture and the mild taste helps the plant blend well with other ingredients in many dishes
